What to Wear at Weddings ...

You’ve been invited for a wedding and you’re not sure of what to wear. Help is at hand – here are some basic tips on how to look your best at the event. Remember, there’s nothing to be nervous about because everyone will have their attention focused on the bride and the groom. Though that does not mean you should not be well turned out!

Dress according to when the wedding is going to be held. For a morning wedding, wear lighter colors. Your clothes should be slightly less formal than what you wear to a wedding in the evening. Men could opt for a sports coat or a suit while women could wear a colorful dress, skirt or suit. Floral patterns also work well. For an afternoon wedding, the attire would be much the same.

If the wedding is in the evening and a dress code is not specified, men should wear dark suits and women should wear dresses, skirts or suits. Since the event is in the evening, select elegant, rich fabrics. Women can wear more ornamental jewelry than they would wear to an afternoon or morning wedding. They could team their dress with a nice evening bag.

If the invitation indicates cocktaildress, wear what you would wear to an upscale party. Men should dress appropriately – tuxedos are a no-no though. Women could wear chic dresses. Floral or overly colorful patterns are not a good idea.

When your invitation says, ‘Black tie optional’ it means men are expected to wear either a tuxedo or a dark suit. Wearing a tuxedo is optional so a navy, black or charcoal gray suit would work just as well. Women could opt for a full length dress or a shorter cocktail dress.

Wedding Guest Attire – What We ...

Wedding day is certainly the day of the bride but take note that other guests should be as fabulous as well. Fashion should still be present, of course. And we should know what to wear depending on the type of wedding we are attending. Modesty is the key when deciding what to wear to a church wedding. Articles worn in a place of worship should be modest and respectful. Short dresses and low cut dresses are not acceptable. It is best to wear a wrap or jacket if your dress is too revealing. You can simply remove your wrap at the reception. A simple dress or suit “with” hosiery is the best solution in a “What to wear to a church wedding dilemma?”

Black Tie means the wedding requires formal attire. Formal attire is a tuxedo for the men and floor length formal gowns for the women; however evening suits are also acceptable.

A nice pointy toe stiletto or strappy sandals are both appropriate for black tie weddings. However, if you plan on dancing the night away at the reception, select a lower heeled shoe for added comfort. The length of the dress will cover the height of the heel and you will be able to boogie the night away!

If the invitation does not state black tie or formal you may wear some of the same items listed above however shorter dresses and tea length gowns are also an option. Remember not to outshine the bride by wearing white or anything too revealing or sexy. Have fun and enjoy the event!
